Towels under sand?

Hey, I just made my new beardie enclosure and its 4x2x16". The size is fine, but Im worried about the substrate aspect. I have her on calci-sand, but I'm used to putting towel under it. The wood is waterproofed, it that makes a difference. I'm just worried about putting the sand on bare wood. Do I need the towel or no? It sure would make cleaning easier after all. Thanks guys.

Country:
1) I would get rid of the sand (any and all sand sucks) and replace it with something else, but I wouldn't suggest towels, as their nails will get stuck in them.

2) You should always treat the wood with something. Since it's a fairly dry environment you don't have to make it totally waterproof, a couple coats of urethane would work fine.

Well what do you suggest as substrate? Ive been using this method for a while now. Towel > Crushed Walnut sand > Calci-sand layer.

Check out the Bearded Dragon Forum...it seems that most of the posts there are on the topic of substrate.

I would suggest either wheat bran or bed a beast.
