Repeated regurging, concerned
Hey folks......I'm very concerned on my corn....I will try not to miss any details.
Got Kaspar on Nov. 23rd
- was due for a feed, ate pinky on Nov. 24th
- fed again 28th, regurged (my mistake)
- fed pinky Dec.12
- fed Dec.21, regurged 23rd.
-fed Dec.28 , regurged Dec. 31
so basically he's eaten 2 pinkies since Nov.24th.
age: 4.5mos
temps: 85-88F warm side, gradient down to 70...( 10g tank )
weights:
Nov.27 6.5g
Dec.8 7.0g
Dec.15 7.5g
did not weigh again untill today due to the regurging.
Jan.1/04 6.0g
he's less now than he was when I got him, which is why I'm very concerned.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it.
I've been very careful to not handle after feeding, etc. Everything I've read that could cause regurging, I've tried to avoid.
Only thing I can think of, is am I trying too soon after regurging and that is the reason?
Did I do permanent damage?
ack.

Well can't say for sure but I would definitly suspect that since he only had 5 days since he regurg before eating again, thats why he regurged again.
Aside from not handling after eating, I wouldn't be handling him at all. He won't need his cage cleaned bad enough to even handle him then. I would give him 14 days to relax totally with no attempts at feeding and try again with a day old pinky.
That's just IMHO

I don't think that leaving him alone for 5 days is going to be enough for him to be building his stomach acid enough if he has regurgitated so many times.
Everytime I see a little one regurgitate, I leave him/her alone for at least 10 days. (Sometimes even more just to be on the save side.) So at least 10 days of no feeding, no handling and no nothing at all to disturb it. Then feed it a smaller prey item than what you fed before. So that it would be an easy meal for the snake. Once you see it keep it down, feed again at 7 days. See it keep it down again and then you can move back to normal feeding schedual.
If there are any other problem with him let me know and I'll definately try to help you out as soon as possible!!

Thanks Marissa and Simon.
I had a feeling it may be something I had done.
Kas was fine when I first brought him home eh...ate right away, etc. I figured it was something I was doing.
I will definately skip the next two feeds ( 2wks) and hopefully that solves the prob. I'll put in a bigger water bowl so I don't have to bother him by refilling the water.
Thanks
(Simon, will keep you posted, but I definately think it's a prob with my husbandry, not Kaspar )

Don't worry I bet in two weeks when you feed him he will keep it down. Happens to us all. I had this anery corn who regurged. I finally figured out she just couldn't be fed during a shed cycle. When I skipped all shed cycles and just waited to feed her, she never regurged again unless I made the mistake of not noticing a cycle.
Good luck! Update us

Water is very important as snakes that have regurged like that have a tendancy to dehydrate (just like us). In some cases pedialite (sp?) a product used to rehydrate infants with diarrea etc. is used or unflavoured gatoraide. Its mixed in the drinking water to help rehydrate the animal. Good Luck Mark

Failing that, I think it's either ZooMed or ExoTerra that makes a straight electrolyte product that you mix with the drinking water. (Although the pedialyte would probably be cheaper.)

Well my corn regurged to.......(there was a spike in temps in the house and her enclosure got way to hot.)
So I waited 10 days. Put a dark towel around the cage, and just peeked under the towel every few days to make sure everything was ok.....And we aren't going to take the towel off until she eats atleast 3 more times.
hmmm, we feed her dec.25, so today's feeding day, and no regurge yet. So we will just see. I hope everything goes ok......You might want to try the towel idea.
Keep us updated!

He drinks with no prob, I have to refill the water dish every couple days....
do you think I should still use something for hydration?
Thanks everyone

This corn may have had two regurges but its most likely from stress not some serious internal problem so I would try and let him recover on his own with regular water. I wouldn't use anything but Pedialyte for babies either if you must use something. Again this is MHO.
I think you/he will be just fine one water for now since he drinks on his own. If you still feel the need to add to the water, just inject a couple pinkies with the stuff after he is eating again. But IMHO I think he will do just fine without this.
