uh ok not what I expected, advice pls

As some of you know I lost 2 of my BPs due to IBD Well I went to a herp society meeting and adopted 2 new BPs that were both labeled males, they are so cute!

Well I went in to check on them since they are both goin thru a very crappy shed at the moment and caught them in the act ....







well I guess they were at least half right by sayin one was male but unless theres somethin funny goin on the other has gotta be female Now I guess Im gonna have to have them both probed to figure who's who which I was plannin on doing but I was hoping I could wait till after christmas when I have some extra cash.

Maybe Im a bit dense but I thought there was a breeding season for BPs and thought this was not it aparently I was wrong

Ok so anyone have any advice for a totally newbie in breeding? any clue on how long I have till theres eggs or what I should do for an incubator? Tips I need tips!! Ill be searching the web as well for answers but any and all help given would be considered a blessing at this point and time :w o>

There are enough "tips" to fill many, many books. I suggest you buy some books or search the net and learn, learn learn. You've got at least 90 days before eggs.

just curious as to where IBD cases are popping up.

this is the breeding season for balls as with most boids.
its probable that the female isn't quite ready for breeding and its just an aggressive male in breeding mode.
if they are in tip top condition and weight, then you can begin cooling them in the low 70's for a couple of months and begin introducing them.

It's late and my brain is shot from working on a paper that's due in about 11 hours!

IBD is Inclusion Body Disease. It's basically like AIDS for snakes. It's fatal, and there's no cure that we know of.

Before you build an incubator and line up buyers for your offspring you may want to consider that BPs often copulate without any ovulation occuring. Ask any of the BP breeders how often they've been frustrated by witnessing copulations only to get no eggs out of the deal. How frequently this happens I couldn't tell you personally but I've heard (good ol' hearsay) that BPs are known for this irritating habit. Can anybody elaborate on this?

They could still both be males tail wrapping doesn't nec. mean that one is a female.

He just might have dropped the soap LOL.

Get them probed and find out what sex they are and keep them in seperate setups too avaoid this among other things

One of the best reasons not to keep two snakes in the same cage. I just hope she is old enough and big enough to cary out the process. You said they are in a bad shed so that probably means they are not in peak breeding condition which they should be in order to not be overly taxed by the process.
Also are you keeping them on un-finished plywood?
Well none of what I've said will change what has happened but maybe I can offer some advice and suggestions about where to go from here.
Frist thing I would do would be to seperate them to ensure no more unexpected copulations occure.
Then I would treat the bad shed buy placing them in a tight rubbermaid over night with a dam bath towel. This never fails. In the morning you'll find a clean snake and a dirty towel.
As for caging if that is unfinished wood I would place the snakes in rubbermaids until the cage is finished and the second cage is finished.
As for the female assuming she is old enough and long enough to be bred I would make sure she has proper basking temps and then begin feeding her very heavily.
