Rubbing out the Easter bunny????

So, how do you wack your rabbits? I just put down 4 last night and it was not fun at all. I'm wondering how other people do it.
Thanks,
Trevor

I haven't had the displeasure yet, but i'm planning on using co2 like with the rats. it's reasonably fast, painless and doesn't cause trauma to the animal.

I hear ya Lisa. I've got the plans and the materials list but not the time right now. I just put down 5 Jumbo rats and every time I do I say "That's it! Never again, it's time for gas!" Then I get busy and it doesn't get done. I've got to make it a x-mass break project for sure.
Cheers,
Trevor

Unless the rabbits your going to use the Co2 on are small, it still isn't pleasant. Bigger rabbits do not die quickly when gassed like most people think. They hang in there longer than expected. And you end up using quite a bit of your bottle. We go through between 150-200 lbs a month, and we just wack and freeze them. My opinion is Co2 is more trouble(plus cost) than just wacking them. Having to kill the prey is just part of keeping herps in my opinion. But we all do things different sometimes.

LMAO! That's a good one. Don't you get a lot of bleeders, with the concrete method? If you get a baseball bat and cut it in half, it works great, right in front of the shoulders. Not trying to get graphic or anything. We just get fewer bleeders this way. But again, whatever works!

I would think actual C02 gas would be rather troublesome what with the tank, hoses, connections, regulators. An easier method might be to use dry ice, add the dry ice to warm water and it reverts back to gaseous C02 which will asphyxiate (?) the bunnies, rats etc. Trevor, I know there is a Praxair in Bathurst which should have the dry ice, if not they can have it shipped up at no additional charge via truck from Saint John on a weekly basis.

i grew up taking care of rabits...no no no..no pets food....we called in tibber so not to upset my sister....in my life i have taken care hundreds of rabits....number really started to climb when i ran the petstore.... honestly it sucks no matter how you do it...the best method i've found is the a cat's paw (small crowbar) place grab the rabbit up by the scruff of the neck and in the same motion with the other hand hit just under your hand...done fast enough the neck is seperated , the animal dead...and there is not even a death twich (the twich really bothers me)
this i know sound cruel but the spead and the fact that the animal does not suffer really does make this the best method in my oppion
