Breeding age/size for boas

Hi!
My friend is wondering if his two year old, 5'5 female boa is old enough to breed this year. She has good weight.

Thanks!

thats a question of personal opinion some say do it some say no you have to wait till they are 3 or 4

i say use your own judgement and keep in mind that by breeding too soon you could kill your female

if she has good weight id do it but hey that is just me

good luck

Because common boas are so variable with size, I personally will be using the 4 year rule for my females. At 5.5 feet and only 2 years old, your friend can expect a lot of slugs, and probably dwarfed babies, because, although the weight is probably ok, the snake may not be reproductively mature enough for the task.

I agree, the earlyest I'd try is 3-4 years of age. the size is ok but the older the better, let the plumbing get mature ,pluse an older female will(should) be larger meaning more/bigger babies and safer for the female.
remember these animals should reproduce for 20 years or so, so whats another year or two of growth?

ZOE:

My rule of thumb to be safe and get the best outcome on boas (columbians) females should be 3 and males 1.5 - minimum on both. A 13 year old child can have kids that don' t mean its right. Take the time to grow that boa and age it right for matting, the outcome is always better when taking time over speeding up a boa' s cycle.

Cya...

mature muscle mass is really the key to breeding....though she is over 5' and good weight doesn't mean she is nessarily ready to breed. I recomend just like the other waiting until at least their third winter.
