BIg retic in public YES or NO
I'm thingking of taking a 16' 100 lb retic to spookerama , a yearly halloween bash that brings the whole town. There going to give me an exit area in the building thats about 6+8 to close off . there going to let me use a couple of pieces of plexi , from the hocky rink as protection for the public, putting them in front of the people as a devider , heaters , cages and everything els I'm going to bring , 2 retics, 7' and 16 ' and possibly a boa 5' and an albino burm , 6.5'. Any suggestions?

Hmmm... I don't know about you but I have mixed feelings about it. Firstly, it's great that you're displaying your animals and showing the public, but doing it during a halloween bash, that might show people that reptiles are something to be scared of. I personally think you should go for it, just make sure not to scare anyone. Mabye try and explain to people that they really aren't that scary and everything. And make sure they stay behind the plexi so they don't totally terrify some snake-fearing old lady. Good luck, and I hope it all goes well for you.

if they are going to be on display you might want to write a short paragraph or so about the animals giving some info and put it next to the cage. that way people can learn about them but you not "lecturing" them per say

I think that it is a BAD! idea. Not only for you reptiles because it could so easy stress them out. But for the people that would be there. All it takes is one person to not like the idea of the snakes being there or to be afraid to death of snakes. And next thing you know you town or city lay's a big BY-LAW on snakes or any reptile for that matter. And that would not be fair to the other herpers.
I also have some big retic's and burms. And would love to do something like that with them. But then you have to remember the problems it could cause not just for you but other herpers.
Just my 2 cents

So far town council thinks it's ok, as long as the snakes ane away from the public via the plexiglass.

Good point Mike177 That is what should be done if you are doing a reptile show or what not. But this is a Halloween bash were people will be partying it up and being loud and would probably just cause more harm then good.
If you would really like to educate people on your snakes i would do it somewere a bit better then a Halloween bash. And let people know that you are going to be doing a little herp show with snakes so they have the option to go or not. by doing it at a bash it makes it no good for people that are scared to be around snake have a good time

#1, Think of your snakes man, Do you think that they would like it were everyone is going to be loud also with loud music?
#2, Who is Town Council to speak for everybody in your town. Did they put a sing up before hand stating that there would be larg snake's at this Bash. So that people would know?
#3, Town Council or not it would still only take 1 person to complain to the right people and then come the BY-LAWS.
It is up to you what you do all i ask is to think of your snakes (PETS) and other peoples feelings towards big snakes and what could go wrong.
Good luck to you
Brandon

It's cool man we would all probably love to show our herps. But there are places to do so and a spookshow i just don't think would be good for you or your herps. Maybe if you can post some flyers out side of were the show is being held inforuming people that there are snakes inside. And maybe have only a have few people in at a time look at your snakes were it might not be so loud and put alot of stress on your pets.
I don't mean to come off hard it is just you have to think of your snakes well being and for other people including other herpers.
Good luck man hope it all goes well for you.

I know how Retic can get....lol And if you got a big one two I think that you would agree that it probably would not be in your best interest to bring him/her.
Brandon
P.S If you take a look in the Giant python forums i have a few pics of my retics. I just posted a pic of my 15.5' Sulawsie
Good to see another Retic lover to the site
