Florida Herping...
I have recently learned that I am going to be heading for Florida over the Christmas holidays to visit some family. Being the herper that I am, I am thinking I might be able to get in a few good "snake hunts" while I am there.
My questions to the members of ssnakess.com is...
Do any of you Native to Florida herpers out there, know any decent spots near Sarasota to check out the local herp Wildlife...?
Let me know!

I only know of a few places in that area. Myakka River State Park. If you want to drive a few hours south the glades are there and that has to be the best place in the state to look for herps.

I checked out the Myakka park website, and that sounds good! I will probably only get time for one "serious" herp anyway.
At any rate, thanks for your help!

That should be a cool place. You can find snakes, lizards, turtles,etc... anywhere in Florida though. Have fun when you get here.

I definetly will!
I will be going on my trip during december, is this a better time for reptiles, or a worse? As compared to the summer months.

It all depends on what kind of winter we have. If we have a mild winter you should be ok. Last winter was a little on the cold side. Maybe this year will be better.

Let's hope so! I would really hate to get all the way out to a herp haven like Florida and have it be Herpetoligically empty:S
What is considered "cold" in Florida? When I went to Banff last Janruary, we had temps of 20-40 below freezing! Haha

Tons of Herps in FLA!!!I've lived in Tampa, Fla most of my life, I dont now, but last year it WAS consistently cold. If you are going anytime soon I dont think you have to much to worry about, but in a few months depending on cold fronts it can stay in the 40's, dipping lower at nights, just depends. Current temp right now in Tampa at 11:30pm is 69 degrees. If you going around Xmas than I would assume its gonna be cold. But ya never know...
I like it a little better here in SC. Unfortunately it still gets hot hot hot in the summer, but in the winter we usually get a few snows ![Smilie](http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif) .

I don't remember exactly how cold it was last December but I'm pretty sure we had a few days in the upper 70's. I'm sure you'll get a few days where it'll be warm enough to find something.

Drop me a note when you get here. Maybe we could find something ![Smilie](http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif) I may take a week or so to cruise the 'glades too. any day that is warmer than the day before will work.
