Why don't you try it, measure it, find out, and then tell us?

Its impossible to know without knowing the room ambient, power of the heat pad, the desired temp you want, the thickness of the cage construction, the air flow in the cage, the R-value of the wall of the cage, etc etc etc etc etc.

This is why there is no concrete setup for everyone to use and why it is stressed that people set up the cage and then calibrate the temperatures to the desired range of the species in question.

No one is that good that they can predict the cage temps of an unknown heat pad in an unknown house, unknown room, unknown cage construction, etc etc etc

well heres the deal i have a heat pad under a rubbermaid enclosure. the temp on the bedding is 91F 2" above that its 83F. So i would have to say no all you are going to do is heat the wall.

Conversely, I heat ALL my cages with heat tape down the back/side walls and they are just fine. But I would never tell people to do what I do. I tell them to do whatever they can to acheive the proper temp ranges and usable habitat. It doesn't matter how, just do it.

Yup. Just like Jeff says. What works for one may not work for another. There are far too many variables involved. Though a back heating method may work for some people, it may not work at all for you. Something you will have to try for yourself and see how it goes
