So yesterday (36 hours ago) I unplugged my incubator because the last egg had hatched and I was done for the year. The room is 60F and this incubator has been unplugged for 36 hours. The water was 93F and the air was 91F when I unplugged it. This is what it is now. Air on the left, water on the right. If my room was 80F, I could have kept the temps for a week, easy. I also opened it twice earlier today without thinking of posting this thread, so it would have been even warmer.

Im just curious, what do you incubate and hatch at 91F? And what is your success rate on this type of incubation?

But I incubate at 89.5. The temps in the air were higher because it was the last days of incubation and the eggs were creating their own heat.

Very Cool Jeff. That thing is stable. If I had more than one pair of pythons I would build a bigger one similar to yours.
I was at the Chicago show last weekend and there was a guy selling incubators mad out of coolers! I can't remember what the business was called. I had an indepth conversation with the owner and he seems to have it down to a science as well. The incubators had a similar design to mine. It had a digital display and thermostat on the front. It had fans to circulate air past heat elements. The air was pushed through tubes that went under the egg chamber shelf. Under the shelf there was a layer of water bottles to retain heat! It was really cool. Oh yeah the price tag was $700 American. Ouch! I will try to find his info and post it in here.

Man, what a waste of time and money, LOL! I paid like $40 CANADIAN to build mine and hatch hundreds of eggs out of. Add the $100 for a Helix thermostat and this thing is fool-proof.

I hear ya man. I have $13 in the cooler, $5 for flexwatt and a cord, a $30 thermostat, and a $7 digital thermometer for a total of $55.

I did steal the dudes idea with the water bottles. I now have a layer of six 1 liter bottles in the bottom of the cooler laying on their sides over the heat tape to hold heat. I also have two bottles on each side of the egg chamber. So, I have 10 liters of water in total to hold heat. It makes a huge difference in two areas. First, if I open the cooler the water bottles hold heat and it recovers faster. Second, the flexwatt runs for shorter periods and stays off longer do to the water holding heat.

It is even more stable now. I have an extra $30 ESU thermostat I will be adding. I will set it 1/2 degree warmer. It will protect the eggs in case the first thermostat blows.
