Eastern Milk Snakes

On Sunday I went up to Peterborough and met up with Stu Stick and Steve Marks. Stu took us to a spot where eastern milk snakes are numerous. Sure enough, we found a total of six adult, one yearling and three baby milks. I just wanted to share these pictures I took:

These are two of the neonate milks we found.

This is me with those same two baby milks.

This was probably the nicest looking of the milk snakes we found.

This is the same snake. Notice the tail has retained its old skin. This snake had a brutal injury that is mostly hidden by the snake's body in this picture (you can just see the start of it.) Steve said it was probably caused by a bird. He aided the snake by removing the shed before it was released.

This is another milk we found. I find the amount of variation in colour between individual snakes incredible especially within such a small area.

Thanks for looking, and see you at the show on Sunday. I need ride to the show, if anybody in TO has an extra seat in their car...

Nice! Theyre are probaly my favorite milk because they remind me so much of corns. Is that last one is a shed cycle?
Great pics thanks so much for sharing.
Cheers,
Trevor

Hey Dan,

I had nooo idea we had milks here! Now you're going to get me looking I'm quite bad at id'ing snakes, because all i've ever seen wild is a garter . I'll probably mistake a milk for a massasauga, haha

I hear ya on the season being pretty much all over. I've been out a couple times lately, and it's been extremely weak. I mainly herp for turtles, and only seen a few painteds, when I usually see like around 20 and a snapper.

Oh well, next year...
