It is really really really hard to see the pics but it looks a tiny bit like a water monitor... don't trust me though! I'm nothing when it comes to identifying herps

it's an Argentine. There hasn't been any columbians or goldens in the store.

Actually, I would beg to differ. Argentine Tegus are far and few between since Argentina closed for export, and can be very pricey.
Also, baby Argentine Tegus and Columbian Tegus are very different in colour. Argentines being brilliant green/black and Columbians being gold/black.
ALl that being said, there are other ways to easiliy differenciate between the two species. I think in this case it would be much more simple to post a link with pics

Best wishes all,

---niagra reptiles---
on that link there is a picture of two tegus heads. I checked for the scale count and mine has two just like the tegu on the left side of that picture. I dont know scientific names though? so is it the argentine or the columbian?

Argentine Tegus have the 2 loreal scales and Columbians have one. Kinda neat to see more Argentine Tegus up here

From your pic, your tegus looked to be quite small and I figured it wasn't big enough to have started changing colours yet.

Best of luck with him/her.

Country:
At Daytona this year, I saw both the colombians gold/black and the argentines green/black. The babies are really easy to tell apart.
