veiled "in the mood"

I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with their veileds breeding. My female has had 3 successful encounters with males now, but the most recent attempt at breeding, she got downright nasty. This was with the largest male I have ever met, so I'm wondering if she thought he was too big?? I am pretty sure she was in the mood before meeting him. (Aqua blue spots, orange stripes turned to yellow, adventerous, and displaying vividly.) This guy is also 5 years old and its his first time ever seeing another cham. (Apart from his reflection.)

Females will often be very aggressive the first time they meet a male... mine goes nuts every time she sees her man (they are panthers tho). I think its normal, if she isn't interested in breeding she will bitch at him something awful.

Ha ha, wrong forum. I don't think I've EVER been in the cham forums. Only other time was when Trace had those little dudes.

Sheesh Jeff... I quickly glanced through this thread and saw your name and I began to wonder if you had sold off all of your beautiful snakes and had gotten into the wonderful world of chameleons. Sadly, I guess not...

And Choriona, what you are describing doesn't sound that odd to me. The actual mating ritual between chameleons tends to be a bit violent anyways. Considering his age and his lack of interaction with other females, he may have been a little more aggressive than most? Who knows. Did you introduce him to your females enclosure or the other way around? Was the actual mating successful?

The mating was unsuccesful. as she was way to violent towards him. She was biting him and hissing and even made his little hand bleed. We went over to his house, but the actual encounter was in his outdoor cage, which he is not in very often. She was nasty to him for about 20 minutes before we seperated them. I put her in her travel cage and she calmed down, but as soon as he walked over her way, she started to display wildly again. He kinda shrunk down and was quite passive for 5 minutes or so, then he climbed onto her cage and started to intimidate her. He went colors even his owner had never seen on him. I am beginning to believe that she was at the end of estorous and I just missed it this time. She dosen't have the patterns anymore, and seems to be ripening up with eggs...
