Question Tarantula cleaning up after herself???

My Mexican red knee has a wonderful habit of cleaning her terrarium of debris herself and disposing the waste in her water dish! Left over food, food boluses, uneaten pinky mice will always wind up in her water dish.

I think it's wonderful as I use a foamarium insert and getting in her burrow is difficult. All I have to do is clean out the water dish!

Does anyone else have a tarantula that does this?

Never heard of that. Wish I could get my bearded dragon to clean up after himself.

pixie sometimes i notice mine doing that but thats only sometimes. most of the time she brings it down in the burrow with her. then i have to scrape it out of the burrow. wish she would take all of it to the water dish.

I have a question i was looking for that foamarium, where did you find it???

Country:
Well my boa is good at dragging all her substrate into her dish. But some animals adapt a good housekeeping attitude. My friends dog would eat it's own poo to make sure it didn't lay in it's cage. Since they were housed in very small cages as babies. It took a while for him to stop this from happening. Another friend of mine taught his iguana to poo in the water dish to save him some cleaning. That friend is very anal retentitive, so i'd understand something like that from him.

Yeah lots of mine do that, they are very clean animals, they don't like to have diryt burrows, because it attracts ants in the wild and ants are one of the tarantulas natural preditors.

drewlowe: I purchased my foamariums some time ago through eBay. I'm not sure if you can still find them there, the seller had a limited number of them.

Here is a link to a thred about them on Fauna including a post from the person who created them (IDddbiostuff) with a ton of facts on the product and an email addy to order some from him:

It seems that I was very lucky to obtain mine at the prices that I did!

Great news! I had seen them advertized one another site (can't remeber which one) for 39.99$ U.S. I thought that was pretty steep and a bit too pricy but 19.99$ I think is fair for this product and the quality of it. They can last for a very long time with proper care and especially for tarantulas.

I have two more left stashed away for future use and I plan to use them in all my tarantula enclosures. Now it's just figuring out which is the next species of tarantula to get! LOL

drewlowe: I have pics of both my tarantula setups in my gallery.

From what I read from the originator of the foamariums, he still does custom orders so I am sure you would be able to obtain one for sizes you require. The email addy can be found on the link I posted above.
