Well, for one, a 10 gallon tank is FAR too small for a tokay. 20 gallons is even pushing it.

I'd recommend at least a 30 gallon for one tokay, 60 and up for a pair. And you'll need a lot more hiding spaces for them, they like to be able to hide themselves when they're nervous. Cork bark or a lot more artificial plants would do the trick.

And get rid of the heatrock. A tokay won't use it. Use a spotlight.

A tokay can live about 15-20 years old, provided it's healthy. Most tokays in pet stores are wild caught and burdened with parasites. Try to find one that's from a breeder and captive bred, or barring that, take your new tokay to the vet and get rid of the parasites. It'll live a lot longer that way.

On average, female tokays reach about 9" from snout to tail and the males get to be about 12". The largest male I've heard of was 14" from snout to tail.

They will breed in captivity, but you will have to house them in a rather large enclosure for a trio of tokays (100 gallons and up). I have heard of people breeding in 50 gallons, but bigger is always better and the animals will feel much more comfortable.

You should try hand feeding those guys, its alot of fun.

Glad to hear it. I wouldn't recommend tokays to someone who wants to handle it at any point. Plus because of the space they require relative to their size, it's best to know what you're getting into with it.

If you want to start with lizards, try a fat-tailed or leopard gecko.
