Feeding Babies
Ok my pet store that supplies me my geckos food just closed down. What I want to know is do I have to feed my babies pinheads or can I just feed them small mealworms, that I'm breeding?? It's about a 2 hour drive to get to the next store that sells crickets. And there might not even be any pinheads there.

what size are the babys? I would be careful feeding babys mealies because of the high chitlen content, it may impact them.
P.S. you can always order crix on-line

u can feed babies small mealworms. ideally, feed them the ones that have just shed and are white. small crickets should be fine, they don't have to be pinheads. leos grow very fast and they won't be small for long. how old are the babies? how big are they?

They haven't even hatched yet, but I want to be ready for when they do.

I've fed my little Pikachu from day one on small mealies and he/she is doing great. As long as they have the proper temps to digest, it shouldn't be a problem. I feed mealies 1/2" to 3/4", as many as he'll take and he love's em!
He also eats small silkworms and waxworms.
Good luck
Pixie

Thanks!! I really was not looking forward to breeding crickets. Even keeping just a few they STINK!! I still have to get them for a couple of other lizards, but only once in a while for something different.

In my experice pinheads are to small for most leo babies. They have trouble seeing them. I would go one step above that. At least thats what i do. and i have been breeding leos for 3 years and no problems with them eating. You may also buy crickets online. Sorry i don't know anyplace that will sell under 1000 crix. I order from expresscrickets.com if thats any help to you. i always get my crix. the next day as long as i order before 2:00. And have maybe a few dead crix. in the shipment of 1000 to 2000.

Internet is the key. Shipping isn't expensive and they deliver to your front door. Now what could be easier? You don't even have to get into your car. Plus, when ordering crickets online, you can buy about 1000 for the price of 100 at petstores. It's a much better deal.
