Question Difference between Burm & Rock?

I believe I know the difference, but I still want to ask:
What are the main differences between a Rock Python and a Burmese Python?

A lot of people say my burm looks like a rock. I know for a fact it’s a burm though. I saw the entire clutch it came from- we just picked the one who stood out with the most amazing light tan colors.

I'll start posting pics oncec I get good clear photos of them; also when I learn to post pics well.

Hmm... the difference between a Burm and a Rock... well technically speaking, there really isn't THAT much of a difference. As you may already know, Burms and Rocks are closely related (from what I understand, Burms are a subspecies of the Rock python). I guess it's comparable to a 'regular' Retic and a 'dwarf' Retic (mainly a size issue) but I'm no expert. I own a Burm myself, and have many other reptiles, but snakes aren't my strong point. I'd like to see what others think about this, I'm curious myself!

Well i can only think of two because i dont know much about Rock python's. But the difference between the two i think is

1,Size
2,Temperment

But a good person to ask is Dom i know he has a few Rock pythons and could probably tell you the difference between the two.

the rock looks like it is related but I am not quite shour they are now if I am wrong i will be corected but I am gona give it a try.

Python Molurus Molurus.................Indian python
python Molurus Bivittatus.....burmese or asian rock python
python Molurus pimbura.......ceylonese python

Python sebae..........African rock python

now since the burm is a molurus and the rock is a sebae I would say they were not related but but in english the burm is also the asian rock python witch would be why ppl say the rock and burm are related.

But by going with the latin names I would say that they are not related but with that info some one will come and put the pices in the right order

Burms are not even on the same continent as Rocks are, different species names, and look very very different.

Having said that, you could probably interbreed them

All I know is that it bothers me the ICZN decided to lump p.m.pimbura in with p.m.molurus. Pimbura is no longer a valid taxa. The difference between pimbura and molurus (providing the bloodline is pure) is noticable... why lump them in? grrrrr

That's tough LdyDragon, but science would have to answer that one. The differences between Asian people, black people, native people, white people etc etc etc are noticeable, but we're all the same species. Maybe science didn't deem sub-specific status worthy for the pimbura Burms.

I guess that was a good question- thanks. The latin names start to lose me, but thanks for trying to break it down for me.
So basing off of looks- they're pretty similar. My avitar is my burm, but that is an unclear photo from a disposable camera over half a year ago. I need a digital camera to take a pic for you all.
How big do rocks get and whatis their temperment compared to burms?
