is that dirt in there with that snake????? UHM
i dont know if thats a really good idea, it looks nice and all, but to house a snake with soil, well, i can not tell you how to keep your animals, but, personaly i would never house a boa under this condition, it is only asking for trouble. not a good idea thats all!!!
only thinking about the well being of the snake. want something natural, use cypris mulch, if its an absolute must, paper towel would be more sanitary. soil will only end up harboring parasites and fungi!!!! mike

It is natural organic soil. I DO NOT feed my guys in their enclosures, they are fed in feeding contaners with papertowels. I have used many different substrates before, paper towel and newpaper just take away an important reason why I keep reptiles (natural wildlife etc etc)! I buy the soil in bulk and change it and monitor it all the time! Thanks for the comment I'll take it into consideration.

Hmm soil might be ok I don't really know for sure. I have personally never seen or heard of anyone using it for substrate. Could be a reason for this *shrug*. Maybe it's just not sanitary. Can't say for sure.

Any substrate is fine, as long as it doesn't hurt the snake's stomach or has fumes that can hurt the snake. If you feed outside the enclosure, of course.

bacterial proliferation is the biggest worry when using soil.
The soil and accompanying organic debris contains microorganisms, parasites, and environmental toxins that may be harmful to snakes. I am not trying to dis the way you keep you boas, but, if there may be a possibility that you boa may get blister, or even a bacterial infection, etc.... why take the chance and risk you animals health. thats all am sayin but hey, it all comes down to you. its your animals and you will house them the way you please. it was just hard for me to believe some one actually uses soil as subsrate. mike

Organic soil does not contain environmental toxins! But I respect the fact that it contains microorganisms. You make it sound like I keep my reptiles in unsuitable conditions. It seems that you are really upset about this. Bob clark recomends soil in his book as a suitable substrate. I'm not saying that just because he uses it, its safe, but the fact that a reptile vet is a co-author of the book is good enough for me. And the fact that Bob Clark has been keeping boas for a long time in soil without problem is also good enough. I am not trying to attack you, but do you have personal experience keeping boas in soil? or is it just your own opinion?

I must agree with Jeff, I've tried using soil for some of our boas and it works excellent! Just as long as you spot clean and make sure that you change the soil once it gets dirty. It should be Okay since we use it for monitors also.By the way beautiful boa there
