Fedex Oopsie!!
My new boa was shipped out yesterday by Fedex, and when he hadn't arrived today by the usual shipping time I started to get worried, so I went to the website to track the package. It said he won't arrive until Monday!! I called the company to find out what the problem was, since I was told by the breeder that the snake was shipped overnight, and Fedex told me that the shipper didn't specify Saturday delivery, so overnight means the next business day, which is Monday. Ack! But that's not all! I told them that the package contained a live animal and that he needed to be kept warm, and they told me that Fedex doesn't allow the shipment of live animals!!!! Let me tell you what a surprise that was for me!! Luckily the Fedex people have been very nice, and said that it wasn't a problem this time, and that they would put a note on the box that it is a live animal that needs to be kept in a warm room, so everything should turn out ok.
The breeder I bought from should have specified Saturday delivery, first of all, and he should have know that Fedex didn't ship animals!!! I am not a happy customer!! If this boa arrives in anything less than perfect condition, I will turn into the customer from hell, let me tell you!

lucky, very very lucky. maine winters are harsh and having an animal shipped here overnight is dangerous, but 2 days is just pure luck if it stays warm. hope it arrives ok.
how could they not know it would be live? would the vent holes kinda give ya a hint? lol, i hope it turns out ok.

Very interesting story there Victoria,
I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't eating becaue of stress and also i would phone the breeder and tell him his mistake.
Good luck to you and your Boa,
-Reptilez

Not good. Hope the boa arrives alive and ok. In general couriers are not the best way to ship animals because alot of the handling is done by machinery. A machine has a hard time reading "this side up" or "fragile".

The big three, UPS, FedEx, and USPS, do not knowingly ship live animals. Yet, most people use them for their popularity. Most breeders and such will use them, just not tell them what they are shipping. All goes well, until a situation like this arises. Snowfoxx, be wary of your boa when she arrives. Just because FedEx said they will put her in a warm room, there is no telling how long she has been cold, or if they are going to put her in a warm room. I wish you the best.

UPS knowingly ships live animals, but only from certain locations to certain locations. If you call ahead to verify the route you can ship live with warnings all along the route so that the animal is handled by people rather than machines.

The breeder was Inner City Reptiles. They gave been giving me fishy lines from the beginning (see my "Substitution" post in the BCI & BCC forum if you're interested) so I'm very unhappy at this point. He said he shipped with a hot pack, and I noticed the problem and got in touch with Fedex within 24 hours of shipping, so hopefully he will arrive unharmed. If he isn't perfect on arrival, this breeder will be in big trouble from me!

Why not check out the BOI on Fauna? You can check what others have had to say about Inner City Reptiles and in the event things go wrong you can post.
