cage building
Hello everyone.
I am going to purchase a baby/sub-adult bearded dragon or blue tongued skink in the very near future. I have a 30 gallon aquarium that i will house m reptile in for a while, but i need tips and ideas for building a cage to house an adult sized beardie or blue-tongue. any information you have to offer me would be great. Thanks

i have my 2 beardies in a 48''x20''x26". its a wooden cage with 3 vent holes on each side and the lights are screwed into the top of the cage.

sounds like a nice cage, i was thinking of a melamine cage around that size, with a glass/plexi-glass front and vents on the tops and sides. do you think that would work?

Sure, i dont see why not, and you may want glass sliding doors because its alot cheaper then plexi-glass (i use glass sliding doors)

At the moment i dont have a camera that can put the pictures on the computer. But my friends do so ill get one ASAP.

One very economic way to produce a nice cage is to purchase a bookcase from Wal-Mart. If you arent going to add more reptiles, a 5 shelf should work (they are 19.99 here in the states). After that, go to a salvage yard and get a sheet of 3/4" plywood or pine to use as a door. Match the finish to the stain for your door. Buy hinges, bolt locks, plexi-glass, and knobs and you are through. If you are careful, you can build it for under $50.00. Please email W/ any questions.

make sure you dont use plexi for your cage the beardies scratch at it and it scratches the plexi easily and it looks like crap you can buy glass 1/4 4X8 for about 70 bucks you can often get 4X2 pieces for like 30 bucks or so with the cutting fee

okay so say i get one of those 5- shelf unit things, and i get the glass to fit the front (i dont liek how plexi scratches) how do i kepp the glass in place, and could i use melamine instead of plywood, or would plywood be cheaper?
