Temperature Probe Placement Question

I have an ESU Reptile Thermostat with a Probe on the end of a 6' Cord. I'm having a new rack setup built, with heat on the back wall of the rack, and the probe tends to get caught up in the top of the tub and roof when opening the drawer. Someone told me the you can just tape the cord outside of the tub on the wall in the back and still have good control over the heat inside of the tub. Has anyone ever done it this way? How do you keep your heat probes in the tubs inside a rack without it getting stuck when opening the drawer? I don't want to damage the cord. Thanks...

I dont think that taping the probe outside the tub is a good way to regulate temps in the tub itself. To prevent the probe from getting caught, you could perhaps drill a small hole for the probe to slip through?

Another option, if it is feasible would be to return this thermostat and get the Zoomed Repti Temp 500R that uses a remote sensor probe. Here is a link to it if you are interested:

I also use the ESU thermostat, and I prefer to place my probe directly under the hot spot from my CHE. This way, I know that my hot spot will never get too hot and cook my snakes. In other setups, I noticed that some people also place the probe in the middle of the cage and try to regulate a median temperature.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Edwin, I had drilled a little hole on the top of my one tubs for the cord to lay nicely in the back, and my little Butter Motley Corn escaped out of it. I thought it was plenty small enough but he found a way. I have my probe on the bottom in the back where the heat is, its just when I open the drawer, the cord now gets caught and rubs the top.
