I'd like to hear the emergency plans that you big-time keepers have (meaning 15 herps or more) I live in Maine, which is very cold and snowy in the winter, and we have fairly frequent power outages. I'll be in an apartment for a few years yet, so hooking up to a generator ins't an option right now. So, if you're power goes out (especially for long stretches of time), what do you do about your herps?

And what about other disasters? Fire, flood, tornado, etc.?

i live in maine also. we have a wood stove running in my basement. if power were to go out i would rush my herps cages right there in front of it.

Id stock up on 24 hour heat packs, at least a couple for each snake. which would give u two days or so of some type of heat.
i think there around 1-2 dollars US.

I keep a couple of heat packs on hand, and I have made arrangements with several friends to temporarily house my animals in the event of a prolonged electrical outage. You could try visiting some camping/army surplus stores; they might have some good options for emergency heating.

camping stoves, grills, etc. for heating water and using hot water bottles will do in a pinch!

I keep plenty of 24 hour heat packs, and for my herps that are not already in rubbermaide shoe boxes I keep plenty around, and I would load them all up in the car and take them somewhere that at least had house heat! I know it would be stressfull on them but at least they would not die!

I keep about 50 to 100 heat packs on hands at all times. THey have their own drawer I actually ran into this horrible situation a couple years ago. I am lucky that i have alot of Precision Caging now since they hold heat better than anything else.

If the heat was out for too long of a period, I would pack them up into rubbermaids and bring them to my office at work. We have everything on back up generators. (I guess you can not run an airport with out power)

But luckly I have not had to use my emergency plan
