Stinky retic

Ok so I have a reticulated python. She pooped in her water dish while she was in it. I tried scrubbing her with just water, but to no avail she smells like straight up poop. I dont want to hurt her trying to get her smell better. Anyone have any advice for me.

It will eventually fade, but if you really cannot stand the smell, I recommend either giving your retic a bath in warm water, investing in a reptile safe odor eliminator, or giving the enclosure a deep clean.

You can give a soak and use a little Dawn dish soap. Just avoid the face. And be sure to rinse well.

Don't bathe snakes in warm water, luke warm water at most. If it feels warm to your hands its warmer than their body temperature would normally be. But yes a bath would help with the smell.

I would think after a long soak her smell should be better? I often put my retics in the tub during cage cleaning if they are dirty. It helps, but maybe not at the level you need?

Re: Stinky retic

Most hand dish soaps like dawn are safe for animals. My 9 foot female boa loves to crawl through her poop and smash it every where before I get it removed. I put her in my back yard and hose her down then I rub some dish soap on my hands and then rub my hands all over her letting her crawl through my hands. Then I rinse her well making sure all soap is washed away. I also soak her in her kids swimming pool most the time and only use the soap if it's really bad.
