Post Hi! I am new and have a quick BP question.

I adopted a female Ball Python a few months ago, she is about 5 months old and has went through her first full shed. I am a little concerned about her rubbing her head on her log and in her dirt. This is the first time I have noticed her doing this. I read that sometimes it can be from a Respatory Infection, and mucus or drool is not left on any of her tank or log. Could this be her getting ready to shed? She didn't eat last week either and I need to know if I should be concerned. Thanks in advance!

Just an option here ... maybe there is a bit of retained shed skin around its face ?

When they start rubbing their faces it's usually to loosen the shedded skin ... they start by rubbing their faces on branches / bark ... then over the next next or two it should come off .

I'd give the viv / rub a good spray a couple of times each day to get the humidity up and help things along .

Possibly mites? I had some of my snakes do this. Put in a container large enough for the snake to bathe in and see if it starts lingering in the water. Then check for very small mites in the water.

What are your temps and humidity like? You should definitely check for any retained shed or mites as previously stated. Hopefully it's nothing but best to err on the side of caution. She could also be prepping to shed again. I have animals that will rub their heads against the glass or on the branches or hides from time to time.
Was that her 1st missed feeding? Double check your temps and if everything is dialed in try her again in 10-14 days.
