Aspen bedding

I've never used aspen for bedding and am thinking of using it for my retic. Anyone use it for big snakes? How much do I need for a 48x24 enclosure?

Aspen doesn't really hold much humidity, so I would maybe advise on using something else :/

Agree aspen not best for a snake that likes a bit of humidity. Not only does it not hold moisture very well it rots when wet.

Eco earth, orchid bark and topsoil mix is what I'd use. Of course the quantities needed in an adult retic viv are considerable but worth it imo.

I only use aspen for colobruids where you're only going for room humidity. Anything that requires higher levels best to use something else.

I'm using coco husk chunks for my SD as well as my other humidity snakes. I will break the bricks apart by hand and add enough water to reach the humidity levels I'm aiming for. Then at shedding time it's simple as pouring some water on it to raise levels.

Aspen is easy to clean and won,t harm the snake if it swallows some of it while eating. I am using it for my Boa Constrictor Imperator and Dumerils Boa. I had no problems with humidity and shedding. I recommend Aspen

I agree to disagree...

Aspen is overly dusty, it doesn't hold moisture as good as other substrates, and it isn't as mold resistant as some other substrates.

Personally, I switched to Cypress, but I do need to experiment with come of the other substrates and/or natural soil mixes.
