Looking for Hog island Boa

Hi there! I have been interested in buying a hog island baby but I haven't had any luck finding any breeders locally or in Canada.

I was hoping to reach out to this community in order to find a trustworthy breeder either in Canada, or one that would ship from the states to Canada.

Any information regarding this would be appreciated!

Thanks for your time and happy trails!

Re: Looking for Hog island Boa

Is it important to you to have one that is absolutely pure Hog Island locality? You'll pay a high price for one that is but if you intend to breed them the extra money is worth it. Vin Russo produces the real deal. All of his stock is descended from animals originally collected from the island in the 1980s.

If you don't mind one of uncertain provenance, there are a few sellers in the US that you can go to and I can dig some up if you're interested. A lot of "pure Hog Island boas" have unfortunately had other subspecies introduced to their bloodlines. A genuinely pure Hog Island boa usually won't exceed 3 feet (males) or 5 feet (females) and has some speckling on it. It isn't spectacularly colored but it can change colors with its mood, temperature or time of day. If your boa grows to 6 feet and is vividly colored you probably have something else in there.

If guaranteed purity isn't a big issue because you just want a pet you can pay less. I happen to be interested in breeding them so I'm going to have to cough up $$$ for the real deal.

Re: Looking for Hog island Boa

I want to get one for September/October. I don't want the snake to get too big (even though I want a female) I don't mind if that ya a cross as long as it has Hog features (like the color shift between night and day) mostly I want it for the aesthetic. If that means I have to dish out some dollars for a pure hog then I'm ok with that.

Depends on how much they go for really. I spoke with mr Russo but he doesn't sell individually and he said the shipping is close to 1000$ so I'm not sure if it is the same everywhere but 1000$ for shipping seems kind of steep.

Do you have Facebook? I'd like to keep on touch with you through that if you do
