Quick question on my new arrival

I know breeders and many others keep them in a rack/tub system and I have him now in a 20 gal tank. I have a UTH already and t stat. Would he feel more comfortable in a 36qt tub being that he was born two weeks ago (5/15/17) would only cost me a tub out of pocket....

That'll depend on who you ask. The real answer is wait and see how he reacts and be sure to give him enough cover to make him feel secure.

he has a hide on the cool side..getting a warm hide tonight and I covered half the tank with a towel

It's more wide open spaces that scare little snakes (they feel exposed, open for potential hawks and other natural predators). Perhaps some clutter besides the hides, f.e. some plastic plants, more specifically; hanging plants that you can lay down on the floor, would help him to feel more 'camouflaged' ...

I've enclosed a pic of how I have my new ball python's viv set up (and my other 7 have a variation of such with 2 hides, plants, etc). It's a 20long, 3 hides (one warm side, one center, one cool side), the 2 water bowls (warm side, cool side) and the hanging plants. He seems to be comfortable and happy...lots of places to hide and feel secure

Well I kept the paper towel and gave him 2 hides on each side and a fake bush he can hide in as well. Mister as well. Poor guy was striking left and right. Sure is fun to break in babies. I used a glove in the last but maybe I say screw t and take some bites. Lol

Sucks I can't start holding him for a week or so

He's striking because he's afraid, he will need that week if you want a snake that will be able to trust you eventually.

Yea I know. I've had them in the past. I'll let him relax and eat before holding.
