Had to pass up a great opportunity

Went to get a feeder rat today and saw that my local shop was selling a 5-year-old proven breeder male Colombian boa for only $40! I don't think I've ever been that close to an impulse buy in my life haha. Definitely would've jumped on the opportunity if I had the money for an enclosure as well as the space.

Anyone else ever had to pass up on a total steal just for the sake of making the "smart" call and going with your brain and not your heart? Definitely sucks but I know I'm not ready for that responsibility yet.

Re: Had to pass up a great opportunity

I know that feel, I passed up on a friend selling a piebald het purple / purple piebald retic couple for a real bargain.. But(even cheap, was still a lot to cough up) the price + the fact that they were both over 12ft already (housing issue, can only fit so many giants right now..) made me turn the offer down.

Colombian (mix, as pure ones are incredibly rare) males here aren't very expensive, 40$ doesn't seem that much of a steal? Then again, prices are different here.

At any store I've been to, it's pretty typical to see baby Colombian boas going for $70-$100 per. So the fact that this was a beatiful full-grown boa for $40 seemed pretty great to me

You need to stop going to the stores lol. Most animals are overpriced there.

$40 for a normal Columbian male adult is pretty average, if not overpriced. That store was given that snake for sure by someone who didn't want it or couldn't sell it so they just wanted rid of it.

Re: Had to pass up a great opportunity

I've had to pass on quite a lot recently. A Liasis mackloti for $80 or so is the latest and it's a lovely looking snake.

Re: Had to pass up a great opportunity

Went to the Long Island reptile expo several months ago specifically to buy feeders. As i browsed the tables i came across this amazing firefly ball python that was screaming at me. I looked and pondered then walked away. Picked up the feeders and went back to the firefly and had a mental tug of war with myself. As i won the battle with myself to not impulse buy i had to keep looking at the snake as i made my way to the exits.
