On the back?

I have heard repeatedly that turning a crocodilian
on its back will relax it so it does not struggle
a lot. My first question is, is this true? and my
second is can it be harmful to them. The reason I
ask is because when i do my monthly measuring and such there is one that just goes nuts when i try to measure her.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Deuce

PS Pics are coming soon!

Since Deuce is taking so long with the pics.... here is a pic of our favorite Lady!

This is Lady-Chomps-A-Lot, one of American Alligators from the zoo we both work at. She's a handful in her cage, but once you've got her out she's an absolute sweetheart!

Thanks for looking!

Cheers!

...Great Beast. Do you guys know the Ssp of your Niles? Nice gator as well.

About the question;
Disorientation appears to be the reason crocodilians momentarily relax when
placed on their backs, and the more aggressive/alert guys, in my opinion and observations the Specs seem to take that medal, are more harder to subdue. It just varies..

Also, new info on that 18' gator was actually 13.5' and was found in Florida. A friend of mine got the information from a reliable source. Also, he told me a new way to figure the length of the gator by measuring the man behind the gator. Assuming he's of average height (6.7-8') adult american male...

...Yup, Subspecies..
I dunno if you didn't get that or if you didnt know hat ther are different Ssp..

So for the record, the 7 ssp of Niles are:

Sudanese Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus niloticus

East African Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus africanus

West African Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus chamses

South African Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus corviei

Madagascan Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus madagascariensis

Kenyan Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus paucisculatus

Central African Nile crocodile-Crocodylus niloticus suchus .

From what I understand the most commonly sold nile crocs are the C. n. madagascariensis...

All righty Dom. Here's Mr. Nasty-Pants! He's a real treat to clean out in the morning! He's a whole lot of croc-a-tude in a small body!

Cheers!
