What could live in this tank?

I have a custom built rimless aquarium, that I was using for my robo dwarf hamster, but I switched her into an even larger tank, as she is very active, and I thought she could use the room. The tank measures 36"Lx24"Wx12"H. There is no lid, and I do not want to make or have a lid built unless absolutely necessary. I'm open to any reptile ideas, as I already have too many rodents/small mammals and fish!

Small terrestrial lizards would probably work. Leopard geckos etc. Only things that can't climb would be okay without a lid. You'd also have to be sure you don't build a ramp with decor that they could use to get out.

A Leo would be pretty cool, I also really love blue tongue skinks, do you think they'd be able to climb out? Or a box turtle/Mediterranean tortoise of some kind?

I don't know much of anything about tortoise so I'll let someone else answer that.

Well the cage is too small for a blue tongue adult, but a hatchling to juvenile would be fine

I wasn't aware of that! Everywhere I've seen, and even on the BTS forum, they say a 40 breeder is fine, and my tank is quite a bit larger than a 40B. I do plan to get a BTS at some point in my life, but I guess I'll have to get a bigger tank.

. I don't love leos, I do think they are wonderful pets, and are very interesting, but I just don't click with them. Would a smaller terrapin work then? I'll have to look at more lizards, but can you think of a snake that would work? I could potentially get a custom lid, so that would widen my options.

With the tank having no lid getting a UV fitting maybe a problem which would also limit what u could keep also

Maybe some sort of frog(s) that don't climb well or jump very high? Fire belly toads come to mind as well as pacmans, american toads, etc.

A blue tongue skink would get out. They are surprisingly good climbers and they wouldn't even have to climb to get out of that size tank.

That size cage would not work for any terrestrial turtle or tortoise. Way to small, turtles and tortoise need lots of space. Keep.in mind they can move miles everyday.

Good to know, I though 6 square feet was the minimum for russian tortoises and box turtles. I'm not a huge fan of frogs, they aren't very smart. I do like firebellies, but I already have six. I'm thinking that I'll just get a custom lid and put a ball python in it, as everything I would want to put in it is too big. Or maybe as a tank for a hatchling/juvie BTS.

While your cage is bigger, a blue tongue can reach almost 24" at adult size so the minimum enclosure would be 48"Lx24"W, I keep my 27" long timor monitor in a 5'Lx2.5'Wx6'T enclosure (soon to be moved to a 8'Lx3'Wx8'T ) and he utilizes every square inch of space I provide

Most people seem to think russians and boxies dont need much space. They both move constantly. Id say 6 foot minimum for either

I ordered a 72"x36" pvc cage for my BTS, I'm on the BTS forum, and it seems that a 40 breeder is the minimum, but all of my current pets have cages that are larger than the minimum size, and I want my bluey to have space to roam. I'll set up the cage, and then order a BTS, I found someone that supplies northerns for only $110 in my city! I would definitely love to have a russian tort at some point in my life, but I think I'll do an outdoor setup in a few years. I have ordered a custom lid for the tank, so now having a lid isn't a problem.
