Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
I love threads like these :3
(Not including any animal I already own)
1. Leachie gecko. Love em but can't afford a $500 animal right now.
2. Ringneck snake. Beautiful but fragile.
3. Woma Python. Always been a favorite.
4. Retic. Again, a favorite, but they're too big for me right now.
5. Northern Terrapin. Not much of a turtle person, but these babies are drop dead gorgeous. I could make an exception for them

Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
Easy!
1. Lace Monitor. Favourite reptile.
2. Any species of giant softshell turtle.. not really around in captivity but awesome animals.
3. High contrast jungle carpet python. Look brilliant.
4. Some species of caiman
5. A group of sulcatas as more of a chilled contrast to all these huge predators

With how amazing and diverse your collection is Im so proud to actually have something from your want list in my collection.. That being Gonionotophis capensis which is one of my personal favorites in my collection.
What I will list as my wants here are the things Ill never be blat to have here due to local laws and restrictions. As everything else will end up in my collection at some point.
1. Atheris Haspida (hairy bush viper)
2. Atheris Squamigera (green bush viper)
3. Bothriechis schlegelii (eyelash viper (Christmas phase))
4. Trimeresurus Mangshanensis (mangshan viper)
5. Paleosuchus Palpebrosus (Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman)
Do we see a common trend here? I think I need to move somewhere Im allowed to keep vipers.

Haha...I think your list looks great! And yes--it looks like a move to a less restrictive area is in order. I've been fortunate in that I've always lived in places where it was either not regulated at all or there was a reasonable permit system in place.
My list isn't so much a want list (I currently have four of the five species I listed), but a list of species that I would keep if I was only allowed five. And speaking of Gonionotophis capensis, after fine tuning my husbandry of them for several years, they are now finally ready to breed. Fingers, paws, and spurs crossed!

Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
I don't think I could ever do just 5....
However, I'll give this a shot. Not counting what I already have.
1. Alligator (or culivers dwarf caimen)
2. Abronia
3. Radiated tortoise
4. Hairy bush viper
5. Gilla monster
I will never be able to own any of these animals for several reasons. Mostly state laws and cost. Though the Abronias are coming down in rice lately so I may one day have one. =)
Pics below are in order of the list.

Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
If I wasn't also able to keep what I already have:
1. Candy Stripe Brazilian rainbow boa
2. Argentine boa constrictor
3. Snow boa constrictor
4. Snow genetic stripe reticulated python
5. A really nice, pale Suriname boa constrictor with a bright tail
If I can keep what I already have:
1. Argentine boa constrictor
2. Candy Stripe Brazilian rainbow boa
3. Hypo Burmese python
4. A nice black and white diamond python, pure
5. Hog Island boa constrictor
The two lists are vastly different for good reasons. :P

Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
1) Eastern Indigo
2) Nile Monitor
3) Hypo Red Bullsnake
4) BRB (BSG I checked out the candy stripes, those are absolutely beautiful!)
5) Caramel Jaguar Carpet Python
My IF's are pretty attainable, cost being the main deterrent in most. Mink it's interesting you mentioned the Gila monster. We have one up at the shelter that likes to chase my hand around when I change his water, not looking forward to getting gnawed on him hahaha. I'll try and snap some photos for you next week.

I had no idea there were dwarf monitors! I love the monitor attitude but have been hesistant as they require so much space. The ackies and storr's look perfect. Hooray for this thread feeding my hopeless herp addiction

Re: If You Could Have 5 Reptiles What Would You Pick
My favorite part about threads like this is you learn about new unusual animals, for example, @minkness i've heard of abronias before but that blue/grey one is by far cooler than any i've seen before

Yeah, pulled that pic from a fauna sales add. I would want 1 blue and 1 green for sure. =)
