Eastern Green Mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps)

This is a portrait of an adult female eastern green mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps) that has been a long-term resident in my collection. This animal is approximately 12 years old now, and is absolutely flawless. The almost fluorescent green coloration in this species must be seen to be believed. It did not come with any locality data, but a preliminary phylogenetic analysis of a single gene fragment I conducted on this genus placed it square within the East African clade. Since the most common point of origin for imported specimens of this species in East Africa is Tanzania, there is strong probability that this specimen is also from Tanzania.

Just wow. Incredible snake. Love green mambas, not that I'd ever keep one! I'm pleased some people do though so I can enjoy looking at them...

Love it. Mambas are my favorite hot species.
