Super friendly

I'm not complaining, that's for certain, but my baby king is supremely docile and friendly. She always wants ti be out and held. Shes never taken a defensive position nor struck at anything that isn't food. I believe shes about 3 months and Ive had her for about 2 and a half weeks.
Is this a typical king personality or did I get very lucky?
Thanks

Re: Super friendly

Sounds like a sweet personality. You are a really lucky guy/gal. Not saying all baby kings are aggressive/defensive, but definetely not all are as sweet as yours.

Re: Super friendly

Both of my kings were pretty sweet from day one too. I know there are some defensive kings out there but I think they sometimes get a bad rep. It's like Jekyll & Hyde at feeding time though.

Re: Super friendly

You're indeed fortunate to have one that is so calm, especially when it's still so young. I may be wrong, but I'm not sure that any snake ever "wants" to be held. They tolerate it, some better than others, and on some occasions they welcome the warmth of our body heat if they are cold. In most cases, excessive handling induces stress in a reptile which can lead to problems down the road. Just a thought...

Re: Super friendly

That's a lucky find for such a young baby! A lot of the babies tend to be really nervous and flighty and take time to calm down. I actually haven't seen many very defensive adults, other than wild caught animals or rescues. There are some from good backgrounds that still have grumpy personalities, but it doesn't seem to be as common as people suggest. Many do have strong feeding responses which can be misinterpreted as aggression, though.

Re: Super friendly

What kind of King is it? I had brooks kings and they weren't really aggressive aside from feeding time.

Re: Super friendly

I find that L.pyrelomana, and L. zonata and mostly all of the mountain kings are calmer and more docile than some of the other king species.

Re: Super friendly

Tyrion, my king snake has never attempted to bite me, ever. When I'm talking to someone at a pet store and it comes up, they always say they can't believe he has never hissed or struck at me. But he hasn't.

Re: Super friendly

The guess is Ruthvens. But I'm not sure. The petstore was not the most reliable for being an only reptile store.

Re: Super friendly

My baby is really sweet, he tagged me a few times at the pet store but settled down after bringing him home.
