Question Identification Help?

(Is this the right forum? Since I didn't catch him... don't know if it makes a difference haha)
I'm pretty sure he's some white sided morph, but I'm not 100% positive on species. I'm thinking either gopher or rat snake... all I know we picked him up at an animal shelter in Southern California, but I don't know his backstory.

He is a bit shy... very speedy, but not temperamental as he's never tried to bite anyone. He's also pretty long and thin- very whip-like.

Re: Identification Help?

Yeah it is a young white-sided Gopher, that head is unmistakably Pituophis. I don't know a whole lot about the Pit morph scene but all of the white-sided Pits I have seen were labeled as Bull Snakes. Bull Snakes are a subspecies of Gophers, so I'd call it a white-sided Bull Snake. It looks pretty robust to me and will fill out quite a bit more as it ages. Grats on the pick up.
