What do I do when they meet?

So because of they breed of my dog and the way he is I tend to not allow him into my snakes room because I would rather they never meet.
Unfortunately because I am going on holiday I've had to relocate them both temporarily to my mothers holiday house where a friend of the family will be looking after them.
Now in this house her holiday cage is in an area the dog will be able to see her and it got me to wondering about absolute worst case scenarios like if through some disastrous series of events the snake was able to wrap my dog (maltese **** zhu so large rat like dog) what would be the best way to get them off each other? Had some other questions but I forgot them as I wrote this.

Oh heard a story that a lady took her Chihuahua to the beach and everyone was fussing over how cute it was and a pelican scooped it into its mouth and flew off as everyone watched.

Re: What do I do when they meet?

There's really no reason for the snake to be out of the enclosure, so minimal chance of them coming in contact. Even if they did, it's not very likely the snake would attack the dog. Worst comes to worst, just calmly unwrap the snake from around the dog. The main thing in any crisis situation is not to panic. Do make sure the caretaker isn't afraid of the snake to start with. Or the dog for that matter...

The caretaker has worked with snakes before and knows the snake isnt allowed to be taken out if im not there but when it comes to my animals im paranoid someone else will screw up.
One time I asked my brother to mind my dog for the day. He calls me from the vet while they were cutting a plastic bottle off the dogs head. I have a picture somewhere. How his head got that far into it I will never know

How long are you going for? If it's only a week or two then the caretaker needs to open the snake enclosure like 2 times. To change water or clean a bit of poop. Otherwise the snake can go without eating for a bit.

Going for a couple weeks so ive told her to maintain the cage but not to remove the snake or let it out of her site for any reason

Lol! Should always try and keep the animals separated though. I never have a snake out when a dog or cat is in the room.

Slightly offtopic, but you do realise its not spelled like Sh*t right? (Shih-Tzu) Sorry it really made me snicker a bit. Anyway, why not ask them hold the dog for a bit / tie it up for a little / put it in a crate?

Man.. honestly i think you are over worry d! i had less trouble leaving my BP with my Sis who is dead scared of him.. well i didn't go for 2 weeks (only 1) but i think if i told her.. toss the little rodent and watch him.. i still would of been fine.. relax.. you say your friend has experience with snakes.. so.. i guess he is not a dummy.. and will not let your dog get near the snake.. just close the door in the bathroom with the dog in it 2 minutes wile he does whatever with your snake.. and done

Re: What do I do when they meet?

I used to keep my chihuahua away from my big boa. But other then that I dont worry about the ball pythons or snakes not capable of doing real damage. The snakes ignore the dogs and the dogs ignore the snakes.
I did lose a cornsnake once out of a tub(not shut correctly). She ended up in my greencheek conures cage in the middle of the night. Luckily the cornsnake was small and in no way could injure the bird, however the conure did leave a nice bite mark on the snake.Im actually lucky the conure didnt snip that snake in half.

Re: What do I do when they meet?

My cats both just think my snake is a toy that moves on her own.....I've had my snake out for a short handle when a cat jumped into my lap. The cat would then just sniff and bat at the snake....of course I dump the cat out of my lap when the batting begins XD The cats would likely injure the snake if I let them.

Basically, I wouldn't let the snake be OUT in the same room unless I was supervising, but both of the cats don't pay attention to the snake's enclosure. The cats are free to come and go from that room as they please, and they just lounge around. My snake enclosure is very secure, so I don't worry about it. No cat is getting to my snake while she is in there
