I had a similar case a few years ago. My boa had gotten an infected cut on top of his head (a bump) due to rubbing against the mesh wire top of the enclosure. It took several rounds of antibiotics and eventually surgery to deal with it. I am curious in what kind of enclosure is your snake in, which might have caused this.
I would personally take the snake to the vet as soon as you can to get a second opinion and treatment options.
Possibly a abcess also. Do you have the ability to give us a few more angles of the swelling? How old is the animal? Is that a garter snake? Please give a bit more light to the next photos.
