Funny Things I've heard...

Well these aren't jokes but I think they count:

Boyfriend: Come here Apollo!
Me: He can't hear you...snakes can't hear
Boyfriend proceeded to freak out for the next half hour...he was very upset and kept apologizing to the snake then saying "oh sh** you can't hear me"

"Snakes are the devil."
Me: that was ONE time......

Oh and just now I was trying to get some good pix of my RTB and my boyfriend whistled at him to make him look at the camera so we had to have the "snakes can't hear" conversation again...

And finally:
What do you do if it bites you?
Me: put him away
Person: So his venom doesn't hurt?
Me:....it's a rtb...no venom
Person: All snakes have venom
This turned my criminal justice class into a heated debate room about whether or not all snakes have venom....

Snakes don't have any visible ears, but they have internal ear parts resembling those of other animals that pick up on vibrations just like our ears do. Since the vibrations have to go through flesh to get to a snake's "ears", though, it's likely that they can only detect very low frequency sounds from the air. Sounds transmitted through solid surfaces that the snake is in contact with would be "heard" more clearly than airborne sounds. Next time your boyfriend wants to talk to your snakes, tell him to speak loudly or in a deep(low frequency) voice, or use one of those tin-can-and-string phones to talk to them :P

Also, venom glands are really just modified saliva glands and all saliva, by definition, is destructive. Enzymes and what not. So you could make the argument that all snakes are indeed venomous. As are humans lol.

My RTB decided to scare the hell out of some friends today. I was trying to show them how friendly and this happened:
Why do you have a snake hook?
-Just in case! He's a total sweet heart, will probably only use that for field herping *goes to touch Apollo*
hisss....
What was that?
-Uh he just breaths like that sometimes... *tries again*
HIIIISSSSSSSS
Do you want your hook?
-...yes...
