what kind of snake is this?

I caught a young snake in my yard today. I believe that it is a black racer but after looking for pictures of others I am not so sure.. sorry about the blurry pictures. the snake is about sixish inches long

If you provide the location where you found it'll be a lot easier to ID, but its hard to tell for sure without clearer pics.

Re: what kind of snake is this?

I'll take a stab at it being a Rough Earth Snake but it could be a few different though similar critters depending on your location. Way way to small to be a Racer. Your location will narrow it down big time.

Re: what kind of snake is this?

here are some better lit pictures. I have seen and caught quite a few of these. there was a nest at my old house. I'd just always assumed they were black racers but they don't match pictures I have seen of young black racers. I am in dallas TX

Re: what kind of snake is this?

Yep, it's an adult Rough Earth Snake. Very small snakes and as you've noticed, very common within their range.
