Re: Venomous Snake Keeper

Welcome from another Georgia snake keeper. I find the venomous snakes fascinating, but I have no interest in keeping hots. I like to be able to just reach in and pick up my snakes without fear of being bitten, especially not by a venomous snake.

Hello and welcome from a fellow Georgian!! Do you collect venomous just for hobby, or do you actually milk for anti-venom? My wife doesn't like my 4 to begin with, she would totally freak if they were venomous. I've always wanted a Copperhead because of the colors.

Re: Venomous Snake Keeper

Welcome to the forum from another HOT keeper. I keep the same as you plus the exotic HOTs, Gaboons, Cobras, Jumping Viper, etc. etc. I use mine for educational programs, do you use yours for anything or are they just your pets?

What state do you live in and what kind of educational programs do you do? I want to do the same but I hear getting the required permits in New York is a pain because the DEC here is difficult to deal with. I've already talked in person with a USDA agent that works the programs in my region and working with them shouldn't be an issue, but I hear the DEC is really tough about letting people get exhibitioners permits for regulated species in this state.

I'm in New York and have had my license when they first started to issue them. No one believes that me license number is 6. They say there has to be more numbers, but I was the 6 license to be issued. I have helped a few of my friends get thier licenses to do shows. They are checking on the applicants more and making sure you meet all the requirements. It is not impossible, but you better be legit and not just trying to keep the snake as pets.

Re: Venomous Snake Keeper

I keep them as pets. In GA you have to have a few million in insurance plus a full scale building to keep exotics smh
