Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
I picked up the Rosy Boa and Leopard Gecko today and even though I am really happy that I got them I am also really disappointed. I was given the cage stack (4'x2'x2') along with them and it does not fit through my bedroom door . It would fit if the hallway was a little wider but as it is the cage hits the door frame. I have it set-up in the living room right now but it can't stay there. My brother said that it might fit if we remove the door frame but he is not sure if it will go back on after. I guess I will be buying some tubs and heat tape next week.
I think I will be needing some advise on handling these guys as they have not been handled in 3 years. The gecko was running away from me and jumping off my hand when I was trying to get it into it's travel tub and the snake bit my brother and I think it wanted to eat his thumb . My friend said that the snake has not eaten in a while so that may be why it bit my brother and the gecko had a ton of crickets in his cage and has a nice fat tail. My brother said that the gecko is missing a lot of toes but it looked like it had them all to me but I will get a better look tomorrow.

Be gentle, don't move towards it's face, and act like you're just a tree that the snake moves on.

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
As Mikoh4792 said, give them some time to settle in and be very calm and gentle when you handle them. As far as the stack of cages go, is there any way that you can disassemble them and then reassemble them in your room? Unless the parts are glued together, this would be an option. Also, did you try removing the bedroom door to get them in the room? Just a thought...

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
Not to insult your intelligence, but did you try turning the cage up on end to get it through the door? If you do that, it's only 2'x2' which should make any turn through any door.

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
Thanks, the snake has me a little nervous since I am pretty sure that it thought my brother's thumb was a mouse. I am hoping that it will settle down after it has had a good meal. I did take the door off but the hallway is just not wide enough to make the turn . I guess I messed up on the cage size in the above post. The cages are a stack of 3 4'x2'x2' cages raised almost 1' off the ground so almost 7' tall. I'll have to have my brother take a look at it but disassembling it may work.

Ah, a STACK. I missed that very important detail in the original post. Ignore my stupid answer above.

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
Be very gentle disassembling Melamine. It's starts to fall apart on the sides once the screws come in and back out.

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
As IW17 mentioned, if the cages are made out of Melamine, be very careful when you take out the screws. If you end up with "sawdust" when you remove a screw, then the threads in the Melamine are probably messed up. You should be able to repair it with a sliver of real wood coated with super glue inserted into the screw hole. This will fill the hole and let you put new threads into the wood. Just a thought...

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
Thanks, I will watch for that. It seems to have both screws and glue but my brother said that the glue they used is bad glue so it should come apart easy still.

Re: Disappointed but happy and need some handling advise
The glue is stronger then my brother thought and it is not going to come apart .
