Community attitude

Whatsup guys,

This issue has been annoying me for quite some time so I figured I'd ask everyone here. I've been in the odatria/varanid community for a little while, and I'm really disapointed with the attitude of the sellers in this community. There is alot of misrepresentation going on, and outright lies. I won't go into detail, but any of the hardcore odatria people who have the latest news will know a little bit of what I'm talking about.

With that said, I'm leaving the varanid community for now. People have been telling me that I should not worry about the people if I love that species, etc. etc. but I find it hard to buy anything from these guys now, so how am I supposed to expand..I also like to post and discuss on facebook and its not enjoyable with this group half as much as it is in the gecko community.

Sorry about my little rant, but I just wanted to know how important your respective community (morelia, retic, beardie, dart frog, etc.) is to you and if it influences what species you keep or choose not to keep.

For anyone wondering, I decided to go back to knobtails for now, as they are the one genus outside of varanids that I really enjoy and regret selling. I have a whopping 17 knobtails coming next week.

It's the same with the snake community unfortunately.

Re: Community attitude

I don't use face book and other social media for that reason. I am a drama less person and like to be and deal with up front honest people. I'll stick to some of the forums like this one, were there is little arguments and not a lot of drama. The people on the few forums I am on are courteous to one another. I have formed a circle of friends that I trust and deal with. Sorry you are having issues and I hope you can resolve them.

Re: Community attitude

Your always going to have a few people in a community that have a bad attitude and think they know it all and there way is the best. Just have to ignore them

Re: Community attitude

I try to pick the forums/social media I participate in the same way I pick my friends. I hang around a bit to get to know them and get the "feel" of a place before I jump in. Also, I only buy either locally where I can meet the person and inspect the animal before I buy or from well-know reputable dealers. So far I've had good luck with this method.

Re: Community attitude

It's like that in most social media and forums unfortunately. I'm probably the only person in know in there 20's that doesn't have a Facebook. Too much drama and trouble. This is the only Reptile forum I frequent anymore. I have others for fishing, hunting and firearms, but I only use the ones that are both friendly and where you can get good honest answers and advice. I know a lot about my hobbies and interests, but I darn sure don't know it all. I like knowing that I can still learn, and know the answers I'm given are correct.

Not really important at all to me. I don't really care what others think. I know my stuff, i open minded, and always learn new things. If some one wants to think they know it all who cares? In the end they screw up and everyone will see them for who they truly are. At the same time i make it a point to play nice because i do want to build a good name as a honest and trustworthy Breeder. This form and the Curtusforum.org are the only one i am on regular. And the only ones i really value peoples opinion.
