New enclosure build....
Here's a shot of the enclosure almost finished. Poly'd the top and back, so far. 2 part epoxy for the bottom. Sides are 3/8 plate glass, doors are 1/4. The rock background (slate look ripped from Lizard Landscapes) is almost ready for foam coat and paint. Cage is 48 wide, 30 tall, 24 deep.

Aesculapian Rat Snake.
I'll put up some "in the process" pics of the background tomorrow.

Re: New enclosure build....
Very nice. Where do you get the background material.

Re: New enclosure build....
Home depot sells EPS and XPS sheets in their insulation dept. XPS is harder to work with, but stronger. You'll notice I only tried a little of the Pink XPS. Their EPS has a foil and plastic film, but it peels right off. The XPS comes in 1" thickness, the EPS you can get in 1" or 1.5" thickness. Both are less than $20 per sheet, with the 1" EPS I used at $10. Lowes carries them also, but not all stores.

Re: New enclosure build....
Ok,
The background is about half way done. The foam work is complete and it's had a couple of coats of Foam Coat. Painting and sealing is next...

Re: New enclosure build....
That is a very impressive enclosure build. I especially like the background. Very well done and it looks professionally done. Please add photos as you get the background completed and the complete enclosure. Excellent work!

Re: New enclosure build....
Purchased the base cabinet (cheaper than building my own), which is just a 4 door sink base similar to this...
It's an ambitious build, and not one for those faint of wallet. It'll be just under $1k complete. But I looked at several custom enclosures and each left me with things I didn't like, for about twice the cost.

Re: New enclosure build....
If my background ends up half this impressive, I'll be a happy camper....
