Savu island python

I adore Liasis and recently added a pair of Savu Islands to my collection. This is the male, a tiny tiny snake probably about 3ft long and very slender.
The female is double his girth and about 4.5 feet.
She's showing signs of being gravid so fingers crossed on that!
They are also known as white eyes pythons because as they age their eyes go a silvery colour (they are black when born)
A very beautiful snake who are generally good natured although they can be a bit skittish and bugger off at high speed!

This is the female. She has some old scarring on her back so its not her natural pigmentation.

And this picture shows her very orange underside. She's cream at the top but goes to this terracotta colour towards her tail end. They are born orange and go green/cream with age. The male hardly has any orange but she's retained quite a bit.
They are about 10 years old now I believe and possibly LTC

Re: Savu island python

Well she's definitely gravid as she laid a slug last night. Hopefully the rest are OK but she's not due to lay for another week so possibly not :-/

That they are! Real charicters!

Do you breed yours? I can't seem to find much info on them.

Yeah I got mine together now trying to breed them. Two of them are a proven pair. The female had last year off but the year before she laid 11 eggs one was a slug. For the last two month I been rotating the males ever two weeks. I haven't seen any confirmed locks yet but most the time they are in the hide together. So you never know. From what I read they don't usually breed till it starts to warm up. Where most python breed when it cooler Savu breed when it warmer.

We have had a very mild winter here by all accounts. Very wet but mild.
I did cool them to room temp (reptile room not a non heated room) and then warm them back up. They locked immediately.
I've just cleaned and set up my incubator and have it running at 27.7 steady so need a few tweaks for it but she can lay them in a couple of days if she wants!!

I've popped her a nest box in which she's been in and out of and has been fully inverted today and seems restless.
I hope I get some good eggs off her as I'd love to have some of their offspring.

Re: Savu island python

I did the whole cool down with my snake room, but i yet to see any confirmed locks with the Savu's. Now my Carpet and bloods i have had many confirmed locks. I am getting ready to put the smaller male back in today. he seem more interest in the female than the bigger one.
