Holy CRAP. It's huge! I didn't know they go this big either. Such a beautiful snake.

Can you tell us where the pic is from and are there more shots of this snake? I have seen them that long but never that thick.

Re: Didn't realize how big indigos grew

Haha that's funny I found this pic almost a month ago and saved it to my phone. I've got a friend with some permits to own indigos his biggest is around 8 feet. I joke that it could eat my almost 3 year old jamp retic.

Re: Didn't realize how big indigos grew

Iīm long time friends with someone in the midwest who has been breeding easterns for decades. Actually, he was one of the first heavyweight keepers i met when i initially got into the hobby.

Iīve always wanted to see some of his indigos, but I never felt comfortable asking. A few years back him and I got to talking about them, and he happened to have some of his breeders on hand. I too was astonished at not only their size, but their temperament as well. I canīt say that Iīve ever been around a colubrid that is remotely like them.

That species has always been a "dream snake" of mine, and experiencing them first hand did nothing to lesson my desire to some day own a few.

Could you elaborate on this?

it is difficult for me to articulate, but they have a way about them that seems more deliberate than reactive...but at the same time come off as being very relaxed. i had read about indigoīs having a "presence" before, and kind of dismissed it off-hand; but after being exposed to a few specimens...i guess i would have to agree.

i could type pages about it, but ultimately would provide far less insight than someone would gain on their own in 5 minutes time around their first indigo.
