Ratsnakes are my favorite group of colubrids. Particularly the obsoleta subspecies.

Ratsnakes are great! I especially love the Asian ratsnakes.

Re: google made me fall in love with rat snakes.
so they are bitey so are they good to handle then.
is it just me or do they look a lot like the black mamba
I love how they look like they are smiling a lot.
I would adore to get a white or silver grey one.

I've only handled one ratsnake. He went straight for my face, but didn't get me. He tried over and over, though. I'm sure it just depends on the individual snake, though

I really like their heads. Really cool patterns.
Mine isn't bitey at all, and she's a really great eater. Pretty shy, though. She seems to think that the chunks of cork bark in her viv are inadequate, and instead coils up under her water bowl:/

You may want to slow down as this is the third species you have said you wanted today.

Ratsnakes, in my opinion, are generally not "holding" snakes. You get them for looking at. I've been bitten by about 85% of the ratsnakes I've held throughout my life. At this point, I don't bother touching them any more because I don't like my odds. It doesn't hurt, since they've got such small heads and small teeth, but it's insulting...

They are an exception rather than the rule, though.

Re: google made me fall in love with rat snakes.
I saw an amazing adult Everglades rat snake at the Repticon. A chapter of the local reptile club was giving a show and had a member holding one and showing it off. Amazing orange color. Just beautiful and very alert but not flighty. I wanted one so bad. And there were plenty of them for sale. Sadly, I just don't have the room.

Re: google made me fall in love with rat snakes.
Kala you have so many interest why not volunteer at a reptile rescue or zoo close by to you. This will give you an opportunity to actually handle and work with a variety of different herps. You may just end up finding your true calling in life as a herptologist.

I tried everything I could and it did fairly little. In my opinion getting them from a chain store where inner breeding goes on all the time. And genetic issues sadly are bound to follow I am sure snakes are no exception

If it were not for the fact the closest zoo osteoporosis ours away I think totally would do that. Ironically about two years ago I was living in theory and could have done that, buying was also going to veterinary technician schooling /training
