Mountain Lizard question

Hi
I'm new to lizards and my son has a mountain lizard .We have had him for a yr . His name is Googala and hes shedding like crazy but his mouth is always open. Just wondering if this is normal for a lizard to do? He's got running water in his encloser , his light, lots of crickets to eat (he will only eat crickets we have tried other bugs but he will only eat the crickets) , the calcium on crickets and in his water. Just want to make sure he is ok. He's an amazing little guy with lots personality and hes so friendly just hate for something to be wrong with him.

thanks

Mel

Re: Mountain Lizard question

what are the temps/humidity in the cage? I think some reptiles do that if it's too hot.

Re: Mountain Lizard question

These lizards do not like it too hot [from what I have read]...compared to say, a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko. Think tropical chameleon or green anole for set-up. They don't drink from standing water that well either, so a misting system/regime would help a lot.

Re: Mountain Lizard question

Ditto on the notion it may be too hot,
what is he housed in? Photos are greatly appreciated and can help to better diagnose the issue at hand.

i'm assuming we're talking about a mountain horned dragon right?
just picked one up for my boy a week ago.(finally found one that looked healthy)
built it a 4' tall x2'x2' with a small basking light near the top. makes it easier for him to get a good gradient in temps.
top soil and moss on the bottom, long branches placed vertically or close to it.
mist him in the morning, he drinks the water running down the branches, and we feed him crickets and earthworms (He really loves the latter BTW)
a quick warm up in the morning and then he spends his time in the lower 3/4s of the cage.

Re: Mountain Lizard question

Its not hot in his pen I've been checking that. He's got running water and we mist him 3 times a day. He loves that . He just finished shedding and hes not opening his month any more so not sure why he was doing it. So maybe it had something to do with that. He's fine now and eating like a horse again. Weird but that's our Googala.

Thanks for the help guys.
