hey,

i'll soon be getting an emeror scorpian and i was just wondering if you people had any good information or tips you could tell me on how to care for it properly..this is my first invert so im sort of new to this..i have been researching alot but so many sites say different things i thought i'd get some info from people on here...personal experiences and stuff...

in my experience with them i have found that slightly more than room temp has been more than adequate. i mist extensively when needed and throw in a cricket every couple of days. i tried keeping asian forest scorpions first and they have the exact same requirements. i tried keeping lights on them and i was extremely unsuccessful, however it was within the desired temp range. a friend once told me that scorpions thrive on neglect. i have found that to be true. i use a forest bed, but potting soil would do. make sure you have something for him to hide in or some bark to crawl under. moisture is key

Emperor scorpions are extremely easy to care for!

I find that they seem to do better in a colony. Keep a couple rather than a single specimen. They will require a medium sized tank, 15" x 12" is ideal. I heat mine with a ceramic bulb placed over them mesh at the top and this is attached to a thermostat.
Ideal temps are 25-30*c, not much lower as they don't like the cold!
I keep forest bed substrate ( a mix of cocoa shell finely ground up)
and keep this damp at all times. I plant a few tropical ferns in there to provide hides and make the tank look attractive (they don't last long though!) and also place a couple of half logs in there too.
It is important that the cage is completely sealed! These species are amazingly capable of climbing the wire attached to the thermostat! If there are ANY large gaps at the top of the tank it will escape. It is handy to get hold of a blacklight just in case this should happen. With two scorpions in the tank, I would throw in about 3 crickets a week and remove what is left after a couple of days. Dead crickets must be removed immediatley as they attract mites.

I got a male and a female emperor in a 100x40x40 (cm) tank. I got a stone hide at the colder side of the tank and a piece of bark in the middle. On the warm side of the tank i got a flat stone and a fake plant. The substrate i use is repti-bark. In tried potting soil in the beginning (when the scorps werent in the tank yet), but that started growing molt very fast. So i changed it to repti-bark. I got a UTH under the tank and 2 60W spots. Its about 80F - 85F in the tank.I mist the tank at least twice a day, cause its rather dry in my room. I throw in about 5-6 crickets in every feeding. I will throw in new ones as soon as the others have been eated or just died. Well thats about it i guess. And they are great pets, shame that they are nocturnal though, dont see them quite as often as i would like to seen them.
