Cool Measure your snake the easy way.

Hi, everyone. I was ggoing to post this awhile ago bit I forgot. I tried a million ways to measure my BP without actually trying to phyically straighten him out, which I'd NEVER do.
Find a small object and put your snake next to it and snap a picture. Measure the small object and that's going to be your ruler. Go to Serpwidgets - Snake Measurer and uploud the picture. Once you have that done, click your ruler from one end to the other and below the image type in the correct info for the ruler (if your rulee was 5 inches, set the ruler info to 5 inches...). Then click along the snake and you're done! It'll tell you how long your snake is at the bottom hope this helps...

I been using this for a couple years now. the only thing you forgot was for it to work right it has to be a picture from above looking down at the snake. Pictures from the side won't give you the correct measurement.

Re: Measure your snake the easy way.

Get a string, start with one end at the tip of your snake's nose, and run the string down the snake's spine. Both ends of the string can be loose, it's just the point that's touching the spine that shouldn't move.

Then you just measure the string to the point where you noted the snake's tail.

Re: Measure your snake the easy way.

A tailor's measuring tape also works wonderful. It's flexible so straightening the snake out is unnecessary.

Re: Measure your snake the easy way.

I use plastic tubes, I have clear acyrilic tubes of diffrent diameters from a random project I did years ago which i've marked with 6inch markers, makes an excellent and fast way to measure smaller snakes - clear acrylic tubes big enough for a large anaconda my be a bit expensive tho lol

LOL mine would probably decide it was a cool new type of hide and decide not to come out.

Re: Measure your snake the easy way.

I put my boa up against a wall, and tickle down his side to get him to go right up against the wall. Of course, this doesn't work with my ball python; he won't sit still and doesn't straighten out. XD I have my brother hold the end of the tape measure at the tip of his tail and hold it in place, then I gently press down on his head so he's straight long enough to get the measurement. I recently measured Cloud at almost 5ft (he's within half an inch).

My Ball python is the same way. Lol he's just super curious and doesn't like staying still. That's why I use that website to measure mine.

Yeah, so that will work with some, though.

I think it's mostly due to the fact that Bud (the bp) knows how to move across the floor, and Cloud doesn't. If I put him on the ground, he'll move his body up and down off the floor, and not move an inch. Bud will pull his body in together, and stretch back out to move around. So, I normally hold Cloud or take him outside. Cloud pretty much just sits in whatever position I put him in on the floor, and he seems to be more comfortable with going up against the wall as opposed to stranded in the middle of floor.
