St Lawrence Water Snake ID

Hey guys! My mom wanted me to find out what kind of snake she saw yesterday...

She was out kayaking and was alerted to a water snake by her kayaking partner Bruce's girlish screams

She described the snake as about a foot long, and inch thick, brownish grey with horizontal white stripes...

The stripes were about the same size as the other stripes...I'm not sure that makes sense, think of like a sea krate, how both the blue/white and black stripes are equal....kind of like that

Any ideas? Thanks guys

unless she was in the ocean i dont think it would be a yellow lip, but it sounds like a juvenile king, or a northern watersnake ( when wet their bands appear white)
