So I am not really a fish person at all, but when I saw these little ghost shrimp I just couldn't resist. So I went home and did some research and went back and got em

I assembled a little tank with a (can't remeber the name of it) fuschia and green plant, 5 ghost shrimp, and two mystery snails

Couldn't find a whole lot of information on how to care for ghost shrimp, but gathered that they are mainly carnivorous so I bought them freeze dried bloodworms for now (which they seem to love). What else do these little guys enjoy? Are those algae/spirulina tablets enough for the snails or do they require more? These little ghost shrimp are hilarious. I can't stop watching them. Congrats Linds. I have a large group of ghost shrimp in my one tank..not sure how many but i started off with a bulk order of like 400 or so. Unfortunately they are not a long lived species. But if you have enough of them, they will breed easily. Mine live solely off of flake food and have re-generated my tank over and over for many years. As for the snails, they will easily live off the same food. Look for a food with the highest amount of protein and your laughing. I believe ( I could be wrong) that mystery snails are one of the breeds that will not multiply like mad and take over the tank....as for eat your plants...i will say that you should be alright, as long as they can find they natural diet of algae, and anything else you can provide

I used to have a tank with mystery (apple) snails. And they loved blanced romaine and cucumber. I am not sure if the shrimp will eat that or not. But like shane said flake is good.

Oh boy, this is sad.
You know that 'You might be a herper if'..... where you buy a mouse and someone asks if they make good pets, but you never even considered them as such?
Well, I've had ghost shrimp before, but I never considered them as pets. I raised them mainly for seahorse and mudskipper food. I guess that falls into the 'you might be an aquarist if ... ' category?
They're also called glass or grass shrimp. Mine lived happily on flaked fish food, spirulina pellets, frozen cichlid food and any leftovers or food they snatched away from the fish (one of their favourite hobbies). They somehow got established in the brackish tanks, and managed to breed in there too. They can even live in full strength saltwater, which shows how hardy and adaptable they are. As far as I could tell, they didn't eat the freshwater plants, or didn't like the ones I used, but they did nibble on marine algae.

I kept ghost shrimp to feed my spotted puffer, that was in a brachish tank. On time I tossed one in that was a little too big for the puffer to catch and it lived in there very happily until I tore the tank down months later. He picked at hair algae and leftover flakes.

It's cool watching them eat because you can see the food go down.
