I couldn't believe it!!!!

Years ago, I lived in a house where the strangest thing happened, THREE times!!!!! After a heavy summer/fall rain, I caught a salamander in my driveway/carport. Now, I didn't have a pond within walking distance for me, let alone a tiny salamander. To make matters more interesting, I had NEVER seen salamanders like these! They were not that small, and had glitter-like flecks all over them. Turns out, these were the rare Clouded Salamanders!! (Aneided ferreus ).

I couldn't believe my findings. I found the first one 10 years ago, and the last one 6 years ago. Well, we moved, but we only moved 3 houses away!! (Don't ask). I had totally forgotten about finding those salamanders. I was leaving last night and my dad was coming in at the same time. I heard him say "watch out" so I stopped to see what he was talking about. He was looking at a baby (this year's) Clouded Salamander!! Man, this is the single greatest find for me and the only thing that could top it would be an ensatina!! Anywho, I snapped a few photos and let the little guy go. Man, this made my week!!

Whoa! Wild story Jeff!

Btw, why did you move three houses away?

Now that shows how much I know about salamanders. We find these guys around our yard all the time. Never knew what the heck they were. (other than salamanders).
We had one living in our water meter hole for the longest time. I used to go out and check on him every few weeks, and sure enough .. he was still there looking quite happy with life. I'll have to get pictures of the next one .. they are cool little guys.

...

Yeah, post some pics for sure Quervo!!

We moved 3 houses down because my Dad built (or helped build) this house and we got a better deal with the new mortgage. So it would have been crazy to stay there as this house is way bigger (5 bedroom, as opposed to 3 bedroom) and obviously newer.

Hmm....

I don't know if they are the same salamander Quervo. They are ONLY supposed to be on the Island. They aren't even native to here. They came on logs from California. They aren't even native to Washington. The come from California, Oregon, skip Washington State, and then are found on Vancouver Island. Not sure what kind it is you have.

Well, I'll just have to break out the camera and find one of the little guys.

hey cool, my girlfriend and her sisters were looking at a house for sale and they found one of those....so on their way back home they dropped by my house to get me to look at it "that responsability comes with being the lizard kid" they brought it home..checked it out for a day and let it go in a swamp...it was tiny though
